PST Art | Embodied Pacific: Ocean Unseen

This fall, UC San Diego will unveil Embodied Pacific, a multi-sited exhibition in partnership with the Getty initiative PST ART: Art & Science Collide. Embodied Pacific, a collaboration between UC San Diego’s Department of Visual Arts and Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, features artworks created by artists in partnership with scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography and laboratories across UC San Diego, as well as with Indigenous community leaders in environmental and ocean science, engineering and design.

The white abalone is an endangered marine snail native to the California coast. Learn how art and science combine to teach us about their habitat, the threats they face, and the ongoing restoration efforts to protect this species.

Oriana Poindexter, Marine Scientist and Photographer, will share her up-close-and-personal images, which build an unexpected empathetic connection between the viewer and this elusive creature.

Melissa Neuman, Endangered Species Recovery Coordinator for NOAA, will share updates on the efforts to bring white abalone back from the brink of extinction.
